    • @RetroCore

    • @stevendobbins2826
      @stevendobbins2826 Месяц назад +1

      The Amstrad was both blessed and cured by how easy it was to port Spectrum games to it. On one hand it meant the machine still had lots of mainstream software support despite not selling as well as other micros, on the other hand a lot of those games didn't live up to even half their potential.

    Interesting game, I'm also confused by this type of control. Also, when you need dual joysticks and a button, it makes it even harder for you to have proper similar arcade controls at home. I wonder if that saturn virtuaon twinstick on a mayflash adapter will work. I got one in Japan back in 2018, I guess that might emulate the arcade controls. And I guess there are a few other games on mame that have twin sticks plus buttons to use it if it works!

    Was there any sort of quality control that games on the Amiga, ST, C64, Speccy and especially CPC needed to go through? The fact a game like the CPC port was allowed to release and be sold for profit is bonkers. I also hear a lot of these crappy arcade ports would use fake screenshots which is straight up false advertising. Obviously, laws to counter this type of stuff existed in the states, but it doesn't seem such a thing existed in Europe, at least not at the time. Were there ever laws passed on the quality control of games and what not, because it just blows my mind that Fire Trap on the freaking Amstrad CPC was allowed on store shelves and sold for real money.

    Went to look at the arcade cabinet and the action button is off to the side, kind of awkward for a twin-stick game when the button isn't on the joystick stalk itself.
    Always bugged me in home ports when they don't do the obvious solution of just using both joysticks together for twin-stick titles Eg. NES Smash TV in comparison to the terrible Karate Champ.
    Kind of a double whammy with the big square hit box when paired with a 2D isometric projection because those properties couldn't be more conflicted.
    Overall the C64 port had the most potential to be arcade accurate, ZX port is a little stiff but otherwise decent. The CPC of coarse is held back by being a ZX quickie port but worse some how.😕The CPC platform has 27 vibrant colors and can display sprite/tile graphics of 4, 8, or 16 colors per unit but you'd never know that from looking at the too many ZX conversions.😒

    • @RetroCore
      @RetroCore  28 дней назад

      Yeah, having the action button to the side is a pain. You'd have to keep letting go of the stick.
      I also get where you're coming from in regards to combining both sticks to one controller. It's easily done.
